In the savoy bed
Funny leaf brooch in gold with diamonds, pearl & enamel, around 1980
A sparkling beetle has settled on a large succulent savoy leaf. It ripples green with golden edges. A large pearl sits like a dewdrop at the lowest point of the leaf and the little winged fellow seems to be resting - perhaps before taking a hearty bite and consuming the savoy cabbage as a vitamin-rich dish. In a naturalistic manner this little scene is rendered and it uses the finest materials to do so. Solidly worked, high-carat gold, fine multi-coloured enamel and fine diamonds enrich the surface of the brooch, which was probably created in the 1980s. In those years, representational works that served as so-called "Conversation Pieces". We think of happy summer days in Grandpa's vegetable garden and dew drops on the morning of a young day.
