Noble vintage brooch of gold & diamonds, around 1955
How far away the years immediately following the horrors and privations of the Second World War seem to us today. Only now and then do we remember, when we listen to the stories of our parents and grandparents about the regained freedom and the joy of it. When we read the books of those years, such as Martin Walser's "Ehen in Philippsburg," or watch one of those unforgettable films that captured the feeling of life in this era of upheaval, such as Fellini's "La Strada" or "La Dolce Vita" in Italy. The elegant brooch we have here is from this period. Forged from high-carat yellow gold, the piece varies the old jewelry motif of the bar brooch and reinterprets it according to the taste of the times. In the course of the new beginning and the liberation from the dark years, all at once also the forms became free: asymmetries moved in, hand in hand with abstraction, as also in the art of those years. The transverse brooch consists of six gold rods that form a radiant asymmetrical composition, echoing the international postwar modernism. In the center brooch two transitional cut diamonds set white glittering highlights. Created in the 1950s, this piece of jewelry, a status symbol typical of the time, is excellently preserved and a piece of timeless elegance.
Some jewelry designs are so timeless that they have been produced almost unchanged for many generations. These include in a special way the classic chain designs, which are worn in different sizes as necklaces and bracelets. Whether armored, Venetian or anchor chains, their basic shapes have been known since time immemorial - only the way they are processed has changed over the years.
