ofer Antikschmuck (German for: antique jewellery) was born of a passion for beautiful things. It all started with my grandmother, a woman who loved to wear jewellery. She had a story about each piece she owned and when she opened her jewellery box, it was like entering another world: the fond memories and moving stories associated with each piece marked the highlights of a long life. From these memories, a growing passion took hold in me over the years that drove me to devote myself to these small and highly personal objects.
I started to deal with jewellery during my university studies in art history. At first, I began with rather simple things. Each piece taught me something new, and with growing experience I was able to find and acquire even more interesting examples. Among my most exciting discoveries were a signet ring from the family of Julius Caesar that I discovered at a flea market here in Berlin, the pocket watch of Jérome Bonaparte, King of Westphalia and an opulent ring that according to a hidden inscription was worn by Marie Antoinette.
Over time, my business expanded and what I started out of passion grew into a small company. I was fortunate to find other people that shared my love of history and jewels. In 2010, Franz-Josef Dröge contributed his business knowledge to the company. Later, Florian Horsthemke, Malte Hesemann, Lea Döding and Deborah Kruck joined the team.
Together we research and describe all of the wonderful pieces that we discover all over the world, in order to share with you the stories connected to these jewellery pieces.
