This antique bangle is both magnificent and colorful. The piece of jewellery is crafted from solid sterling silver that has been lightly gold-plated. In the center, the bangle widens into an oval decorative section, with a large turquoise cabochon glowing in shades of green and blue at its center. Small sky-blue glass stones further enhance the design. The bangle was crafted using the sand casting method. We see decorative leaf motifs borrowed from the Baroque style, which were typical of jewellery from the era of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, with its nostalgia for the time of Maria Theresa. This style remained popular even after the end of the multi-ethnic empire. Our bangle was likely made in the 1920s in one of the successor states of Austria-Hungary. Unfortunately, the hallmarks do not yet allow for a more precise identification. One possible location might be the former town of Gablonz on the Neisse River. The town’s heavily export-oriented jewelry industry was known above all for its glass stones and jewelry components, which were manufactured there in large quantities and further processed in local workshops. Our bangle is in very good condition and came to us here in Berlin.
