When these earrings came to us in their original case from the Viennese jeweler Friedrich Vogtherr, they were in pitiful condition. They are made of gold, but they were set with glass stones. Most of them were discolored, some were damaged and two were missing completely. However, as we liked the shape of the earrings, we decided to save the pair. We had them set with a total of 1.20 ct of diamonds and placed two petrol-colored tourmalines, known as indigolites, in the middle. Tourmalines come in different colors, with the blue specimens also being called indigolites. Of all tourmaline colors, indigolites are the rarest stones. These gemstones have only been known in Europe since the beginning of the 18th century, when Dutch merchants first brought them back from East Asia. The color of the stones is never quite the same. It varies between blue and turquoise, and the stones used here are also slightly different in color. The newly used gemstones complement the antique earrings wonderfully in terms of their color. Their cut is modern, so you can tell what is old and what is new: but neither piece needs to hide behind the other. The elegant earrings come with a detailed appraisal, also from Vienna.
