Some time ago, we were fortunate enough to acquire a large collection of tourmalines and beryls that had been lying dormant in a Stockholm gem dealer’s warehouse since the 1950s. Our goldsmiths have designed a ring to showcase each of these gemstones, accompanied by six diamonds. It is crafted from sustainable materials, with diamonds that also carry their own history—giving these historic materials a new lease on life. When we then discovered a wonderful sapphire in the same cut, we couldn’t resist. The sapphire glows with an intense pink-orange hue—a blend of pink, orange, and a hint of delicate brown. It is the colour of the padparadscha. The name “padparadscha” is derived from the Sinhalese word for the lotus flower and describes sapphires whose play of colours evokes the delicate blossoms of the plant. The padparadscha sapphire originates in Sri Lanka, formerly Ceylon, whose deposits were long considered the classic source region for this extraordinary gemstone. Today, however, sapphires in this coveted color variety also come from Vietnam, Tanzania, and Madagascar. The stone featured here was found in Madagascar. The sapphire contains few natural inclusions. It is flanked by six sparkling diamonds—three on the right and three on the left—set in high-karat gold. As with all rings in this series, the gold and diamonds were sustainably sourced.
