Description
Shining white bracelets set with sparkling diamonds were the great passion of the early 20th century. Every lady who could afford it wore such treasures - often not just individually, but several of them combined into a radiant arrangement of pure luxury on her wrist. This is how we know the Hollywood stars of those years from old black and white photographs that still characterise our idea of the femme fatal of those years today. This bracelet with around 1.21 ct of diamonds dates from this era. A central brilliant-cut diamond in the old cut is surrounded by other large and small diamonds in historical cuts, held by delicate bars. Partly set individually like flowers, partly in leaf shapes clearly inspired by Art Nouveau, they blossom before our eyes like a mysterious garden. Glowing blue bands of sapphires add a hint of a magical night to the composition. The bracelet is forged from fine silver and was also rhodium-plated in earlier times. At the beginning of the 20th century, it was common to make jewellery with diamonds from silver, as platinum and white gold were not yet available. However, the desired impression of cool lustre could not have been achieved with warm, sparkling gold. Around 1915, jewellery made of gold with platinum plating was common, but some goldsmiths remained faithful to the old techniques. However, the use of synthetic sapphires for the blue sparkling details is modern and typical of the time. In the course of its history, the bracelet was imported to Graz in Austria and re-stamped. An independent expert opinion has confirmed the quality of the gemstones.
