Topaz is a rare and precious gemstone that comes in many colours, which is precisely why it continues to captivate collectors. There are pink topazes, orange-yellow “Imperial” topazes, blue and violet topazes, red topazes, and even yellow topazes. Among the most important sources of this mineral were the deposits in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, but in the late 18th century, yellow topaz was even mined right here in Germany, in the Vogtland region, at a rock formation called Schneckenstein, which was nearly completely eroded as a result. Today, high-quality pink topaz has become very rare. On important occasions, Queen Silvia of Sweden often wears a large set of jewelry featuring pink topaz, which was created in the early 19th century for Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna of Russia (1786–1859) and is among her favorite pieces in the Swedish Crown Jewels. These earrings were crafted in our workshop. The two delicate blossoms, in which airily arranged diamond leaves surround fine pink gem-quality topazes, were once part of a mid-19th-century brooch. We added simple hooks to make the blossoms wearable. Each earring features a Brazilian topaz weighing more than one carat, framed by cushion-cut vintage diamonds with a total weight of approximately 2.10 ct. The result is an enchanting pair of earrings that will continue to delight future generations.
