Fahrner jewellery from Pforzheim occupies a special place in the history of Art Nouveau and Art Deco jewellery. For Theodor Fahrner and later his successor Gustav Braendle knew better than almost any other modern jewellery manufacturer how to make artistically convincing designs and quality workmanship the hallmark of their brooches, necklaces, bracelets and earrings. The present brooch is designed as an abstract construct. It looks like a ribbon flying through the autumn wind, winding in fine spirals. Fine dotted texturing has been used to further accentuate the piece of jewellery in addition to its shape. The brooch is made of silver covered with marcasite roses and it was made in the 1950s. The jewellery came to us in a travelling salesman's sample case that had been slumbering untouched in an attic for the last 40+ years. The 1950s jewellery here is therefore unworn and perfectly preserved. A wonderful overview of the wealth of designs is offered in the catalogue "Theodor Fahrner. Schmuck zwischen Avantgarde und Tradition", edited by Brigitte Leonhardt and Dieter Zühlsdorff, Stuttgart 2005. Fahrner jewellery is often collected.
