This large and unusual bracelet consists of large, slightly barrel-shaped cut corals in a vibrant red colour. The corals are knotted into five strands. A large gold clasp holds the corals in place. Between fine chiselling and overlays of corded ribbons, the clasp features a cut cameo in its centre with the bust of a goddess from classical antiquity. It is skilfully carved from red Mediterranean coral. Six further corals, in which small rose-cut diamonds are set, surround the gem. The clasp is crafted as a medallion and can be opened by pressing the front side - this conceals a glazed compartment that was intended to keep the portrait of the loved one, a lock of hair or a small memento safe. The design of the piece of jewellery allows us to date the goldsmith's work to around 1860. A comparative piece for a slightly earlier dated bracelet of the same type can be found in Brigittte Marquardt: Schmuck. Klassizismus und Biedermeier 1780-1850, Munich 1983, p. 203. An independent expert report on the quality of the materials is enclosed with the bracelet.
