Tahitian pearls are among the most coveted and luxurious pearls in the world - not only because of their size, but also because of their natural, fascinating colors. Their cultivation requires special care: they are grown exclusively in the warm, crystal-clear lagoons of French Polynesia - on atolls and archipelagos where the sensitive black-lipped oyster (Pinctada margaritifera) finds ideal conditions. Only this type of mussel produces the unique, dark grey to deep black pearls that enjoy worldwide recognition as Tahitian pearls. A particularly beautiful Tahitian pearl with a diameter of around 14.7 mm is used in this modern pendant, which we discovered here in Berlin. The dark grey pearl has a flawless surface with a multicolored overlay in so-called "peacock colors". The pearl actually shimmers purple and green depending on the incidence of light, so that it is actually reminiscent of the luxurious plumage of a peacock. The pearl is held in a setting decorated with fine diamonds and small millegrain stones. Above it is a row of precious sapphires in fine pastel colors. The natural stones have a combined weight of around 1.25 ct and are carré-cut. Three further brilliant-cut diamonds complete the composition, which can be worn on a solid anchor chain. This precious piece of jewellery was created at the Schöffel manufactory in Stuttgart and comes with a detailed appraisal from Vienna.
