Here, three fine rubies from the world's most legendary site glow an intense purple-red. The stones, which together weigh 1.63 carats, come from Burma, from the province of Mogok, and owe their intense color to nature alone. The gemmological examination did not reveal any treatment, heating or other alteration by humans. Only the artistic cut of the gemstones, an oval facet cut, intensifies their color through targeted light refraction. The rubies are extremely clear and transparent. However, the few inclusions are typical of rubies from Burma. They consist of delicate needles made of the mineral rutile and give the ruby a characteristic, silky sheen depending on the incidence of light. A gemmological certificate confirms the origin and quality of the stones. The three rubies arranged side by side are surrounded by 26 antique diamonds with a total weight of c. 0.60 carats, which are set in delicate white gold settings. These are different antique diamonds, which are probably several generations older than the ring itself. The lower band and the ring band are made of yellow gold. The fact that antique diamonds were used here alongside the precious rubies allows us to date the ring to around 1940. In those years, the trade routes for gemstones were interrupted and we often find antique stones from old pieces of jewellery being used to make new pieces of jewellery. The use of white gold also fits in with this, as platinum was rationed during the war or was no longer available to jewelers. The ring found its way to us from the south of England.
