A ring with symbolic meaning

Wonderful antique trilogy ring with sapphire and diamonds, gold & platinum around 1910

Rings with three gemstones have a special meaning in the history of jewelry: they are called "trilogy rings" and they convey a beautiful idea. Thus, the trinity of gemstones stands for a past, present and future lived together, united in one piece. The diamonds as - according to legend - indestructible and thus eternally durable gemstones stand for eternity and the sapphire as a blue gemstone has always been a symbol of loving fidelity. In the present ring, the combination of the radiant diamonds in the historic old cut with the dark blue of the sapphire and the noble shine of the high-carat platinum results in a harmonious composition in cool, festive color. The yellow gold ring band with fine openings on the sides adds a certain warmth. The uncomplicatedly wearable ring, which we discovered here in Berlin, was probably also created here in the years of the late imperial period. It charms with its individual diamonds of half a carat together and the beautiful sapphire in the color of a night sky.

Luxury, joie de vivre and the celebration of beauty were the ideal of the years around 1900: the Belle Époque revelled in wealth and glamour: the world's most beautiful dancers danced at the Moulin Rouge in Paris, the society couples in love met on the Ringstrasse in Vienna, and the ladies' gowns and diamonds shone brightly at the balls in the elegant Unter den Linden hotels in Berlin. Like every era, of course, these years had their own fashion and preferences. Shortly before 1900 it was the strong colors of the high-carat golden yellow and red gold that made hearts beat faster: In combination with diamonds, this created sparkling treasures that also stood out from the colorful and exuberant dresses of the time.
