Granulated bracelet with pearls & diamonds by Johann Michael Wilm, c. 1955

A festive golden magic garden oscillates between nature rendering and stylization. Golden foliage, chased by hand and individually curved, provide the backdrop for fine pearls and diamonds as well as a ruby in the excitingly designed central section of this bracelet forged from gold. The precious stones range from soft white to sparkling white and subtle red. The little branches and leaves sparkle and shimmer so that you can hardly get enough of them. A granulated ball, infinitely finely designed, is set next to a large pearl and a large brilliant-cut diamond. Even the reverse side offers a loving detail: A small star is hidden here, holding another diamond. An element that can only be intended for the wearer herself. The quality of the workmanship and the design leave no doubt as to the mastery of the goldsmith who set the jewel. It is a rare original by Johann Michael Wilm. The bracelet was commissioned in 1955 and came to us from an estate in the Munich area. It is now offered for the first time on the open market. The piece of jewellery was designed in 1955 in the Wilm studio in Munich; the original casket for the piece of jewellery has been preserved, as has an accompanying letter dated 17 December 1955 from Wilm himself, describing the bracelet and taking this opportunity to wish the purchasers, the Aicher couple in Rosenheim, a Merry Christmas. Jewellery from the hand of Johann Michael Wilm can be found in the finest collections and the arts and crafts museums of Europe. The bracelet is fully signed and bears, in addition to the Wilms master mark, the Munich Kindel in the shield and the fineness mark commonly used in his workshop. The box with the Wilms company address and the handwritten letter with the note of the former purchase price of 2,700 DM are also part of the offer.

Johann Michael Wilm, born in Upper Bavaria in 1885, was trained as a goldsmith in his father's workshop from 1907 to 1910. He then went to New York for two years and then to Berlin, before establishing his own goldsmith's studio in Munich in 1919. As a member of the Bavarian Arts and Crafts Association, his work was marked by the rediscovery of the granulation technique, but his works show his craftsmanship especially in the combination of baroque foliage work with gemstone settings.
